The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy is a heavy intercontinental-range strategic airlift plane that is used by the U.S. Air Force. Its predecessors are the Lockheed C-141 Stairlifter and the Boeing C-Globemaster III.
When it comes to the largest military planes, the C-5 Galaxy is right up there with the other large planes. It also has variants that include C-5M Super Galaxy and the C-5 Shuttle Carrier, among others.
Accommodating a crew of seven and an empty weight of 380,000 pounds, the plane is more than 247 feet long and 65 feet high and its wingspan is over 222 feet.
It has a maximum takeoff weight of 920,000 pounds and comes with four General Electric CF6-80C2 high-bypass turbofan engines. It also has a cruise speed of 518 mph, or MACH 0.77.
