The Kamov Ka-27 is a Soviet-era naval helicopter that was designed in the 1970s. The aircraft has been deployed in both military and civilian roles around the world, but is most well known for its use by Russia’s naval aviation forces. The Ka-27 can be armed with rockets, torpedoes, depth charges and air to surface missiles (ASMs). It also serves as an anti submarine warfare helicopter (ASW). Its primary role is to provide protection against enemy submarines and surface ships. It was one of the first helicopters ever used by Russia’s navy; it served on board Navy cruisers and destroyers.
